Usgs shale oil reserves
Using a geology-based assessment methodology, the U.S. Geological Survey assessed undiscovered, technically recoverable continuous mean resources of 46.3 billion barrels of oil and 281 trillion cubic feet of gas in the Wolfcamp shale and Bone Spring Formation of the Delaware Basin in the Permian Basin Province, southeast New Mexico and west Texas. Commercial grades of oil shale, as determined by their yield of shale oil, ranges from about 100 to 200 liters per metric ton (l/t) of rock. The U.S. Geological Survey has used a lower limit of about 40 l/t for classification of Federal oil-shale lands. Others have suggested a limit as low as 25 l/t. This is the largest estimate of continuous oil that USGS has ever assessed in the United States. The Wolfcamp shale in the Midland Basin portion of Texas’ Permian Basin province contains an estimated mean of 20 billion barrels of oil, 16 trillion cubic feet of associated natural gas, The USGS estimates that over 46 billion barrels of oil, 280 trillion cubic feet of gas, and 20 billion barrels of natural gas liquids are trapped in these low-permeability shale formations. On Tuesday, the USGS announced that an area known as the Wolfcamp shale contains 20 billion barrels of oil and 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That is nearly three times more petroleum than the agency found in North Dakota's Bakken shale in 2013. As NPR's Jeff Brady
The USGS assessment of undiscovered oil resources for the Middle East was gas deposits such as coalbed methane, tight gas, fractured shale gas, gas
Shale gas & oil is defined as natural gas & oil from shale formations. the country holds promising reserves of Shale Gas & Oil resources and the following Further, USGS has indicated that these basins have also potential for shale oil. 6 Dec 2018 The federal government has discovered a massive new reserve of oil and USGS Energy Program (@usgsenergy) December 6, 2018 the reserve was found, making it the biggest shale-oil-producing region in the U.S.. gas resources are only classified as proved reserves in North America and Second, the USGS excluded the shale gas in less productive areas of the play,. The USGS assessment of undiscovered oil resources for the Middle East was gas deposits such as coalbed methane, tight gas, fractured shale gas, gas USGS completes its own research project on global shale gas resources factor, for shale reservoirs being usually equal to 10-25 % of geological gas reserves. North of the Arctic Circle,” USGS Fact Sheet 2008-3049, Washington, DC (2008), page 1. required to later develop the smaller oil and natural gas deposits. and natural gas resources, such as Rocky Mountain oil shale, Canadian oil sands,. Since the USGS was already involved in oil-shale studies in northeastern Nev drilling program used to better delineate oil-shale deposits near Elko, Nevada.
The USGS assesses potential for undiscovered oil and gas resources in priority geologic provinces in the World. This website highlights conventional and unconventional (continuous) oil and gas resources (such as shale gas) for more than 170 basins.
7 Dec 2018 recoverable reserves in the Wolfcamp Basin, in the Permian shale this formation is included in the USGS oil and gas reserves assessment. 6 Dec 2018 USGS: Permian's Wolfcamp is largest potential oil and gas resource ever assessed The Wolfcamp shale and overlying Bone Spring in the Permian's That's different from the proven reserves that oil companies list on their 6 Dec 2018 That's because the USGS looked only at the Wolfcamp and Bone Spring formations, or just two of the many layers of hydrocarbon-filled shale rock Utah's oil-shale deposits are located in the Uinta Basin of northeastern Utah. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) issued a report in 2008 estimating 3.65
15 Sep 2013 Estimates of technically recoverable shale gas resources remain highly To mitigate this risk, the USGS (United States Geological Survey) first splits shale However, once the inclusion or otherwise of reserves is taken into

The United States maintains a Strategic Petroleum Reserve at four sites on the Gulf of Mexico, with a total capacity of 727 million barrels (115.6 × 106 m 3) of crude oil. The maximum total withdrawal capability from the United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve is 4.4 million barrels (700,000 m 3) per day. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recently completed a comprehensive assessment of in-place oil in oil shales of the Eocene Green River Formation of the Uinta Basin of eastern Utah and western Colorado. The oil shale interval was subdivided into eighteen roughly time-stratigraphic intervals, and each interval was assessed And the findings are truly incredible. The USGS estimates that over 46 billion barrels of oil, 280 trillion cubic feet of gas, and 20 billion barrels of natural gas liquids are trapped in these low-permeability shale formations.
